The Haverton Homes Story:

From IT to Building a Better Future

A New Beginning

I’m Minh Hoang, the founder of Haverton Homes, and this is my story.

I came to Australia as a young student from a developing country, studying IT with the dream of building a good life after graduation. Like many international students, I worked hard to establish myself, determined to create financial security in a new country. After finishing my studies, I started a career in IT, working alongside professionals who had been in the industry for decades.

During lunch breaks, I often found myself in conversations with older colleagues about money, investment and property. Some of them had built impressive property portfolios, owning multiple homes that generated passive income. Others, despite earning similar salaries, had only their primary residence. This made me ask the question: What set them apart?

I quickly realised that building wealth wasn’t just about having more disposable income—it was about how you use your income and tax to your advantage and make them work for you. The difference between those who thrived financially and those who stagnated wasn’t luck—it was strategy and commitment. This discovery fascinated me, and I started learning everything I could about investment, tax structuring and wealth creation.

In 2010, I made a life-changing decision: I quit IT and shifted careers to learn how to be smart with money and build financial freedom through property investment. My goal wasn’t just to secure my own financial future but to deeply understand what made some people so much more successful than others. I eventually joined a company that specialised in property development and construction, working closely with clients who wanted to structure their wealth effectively. Not only did I enjoy the process, but I saw firsthand how the right strategy and approach could completely change someone’s financial future.

The Birth of Haverton Homes

After working in the property development industry, I noticed a critical gap in the process.

Many investors were making smart financial decisions but were let down by builders who treated investment homes as second-class projects—cutting corners, compromising on design and prioritising cost over quality. On the other hand, builders who delivered high-quality homes catered only to homeowners—people emotionally invested in the process, willing to spend significantly more on upgrades. Their entire model was built around long, drawn-out processes designed to maximise spending rather than efficiency.

No one was taking a holistic approach from the client’s perspective—an approach that balanced quality, efficiency and affordability while respecting both the homeowner’s budget and their long-term goals. This was the gap I set out to fill—creating a smarter, streamlined process where clients could get a well-designed, well-built home without excessive costs or compromises. That’s when I decided to take things into my own hands. In 2016, I founded my own business to create a better, more complete experience for our clients—one that seamlessly integrated design, construction and their broader investment strategies and financial goals. I realised that by controlling not just the build, but also the design process and how it aligned with their long-term plans, we could create a smarter, more strategic approach. This meant ensuring that every decision—from layout to materials to construction timelines—worked in favour of the client’s financial position, lifestyle and future growth, rather than just being another transaction. By taking a holistic view of their journey, we could remove inefficiencies, reduce risk and deliver a seamless, high-quality outcome that made sense both practically and financially.

Overcoming Challenges in The Early Days

Launching Haverton Homes came with challenges, particularly in building the right trade and supplier network to deliver high-quality homes within strict budgets.

Unlike homebuilders catering to emotional buyers, we needed partners who understood that every dollar spent had to drive rental appeal, capital growth and investment performance. Finding reliable, investment-focused professionals took time, but we ensured our teams treated each build as a financial asset, not just another project.

Balancing cost-efficiency with quality was another hurdle. Without the flexibility to overspend like luxury builders, we had to be strategic with materials, efficient in construction and data-driven in design—maximising rental yields and long-term value.

By taking an investment-first approach, we created a scalable system that helps clients build high-performing property portfolios with confidence.

Proudest Moments

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing the look of surprise on our clients’ faces when they realise the quality of the homes we deliver. Many come in expecting a standard investment build, but they walk away with a property that feels far beyond what they imagined—one that not only performs well as an investment but is also beautifully designed and built to last.

Beyond the homes themselves, watching our clients grow their portfolios has been incredibly fulfilling. We’ve had investors who started with one property and, through our process, have now built four properties with us, securing their financial future in ways they never thought possible.

Another source of pride is seeing our tradespeople believe in what we do so much that they become our clients. When the people who build these homes choose to invest in them, it speaks volumes about the quality and trust we’ve built. Even our own staff have started building wealth through property, applying the same strategies we teach our clients—proving that we’re not just guiding others, we’re living by our own principles.

These moments reaffirm why we do what we do—helping everyday people create long-term wealth through strategic, high-quality property investments.

Advice for aspiring clients

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that waiting is the biggest mistake anyone can make when it comes to building or investing in a home. The reality is that every year you wait, costs rise and opportunities become more competitive.

Investment property isn’t just about jumping in—it’s about having a plan, getting the right advice and making the most of the opportunities available to you.

If you’re serious about securing your future through property, start now. Educate yourself, surround yourself with the right experts and take action while you still can. Your future self will thank you.

Looking to the Future

We want to continue growing Haverton Homes as a trusted partner for investors, making property investment simpler, safer and more profitable. Our goal is to expand our impact, helping more people—especially those who don’t have unlimited wealth—leverage property to secure their future.

Beyond our clients, we also want to keep building a team and trade network that believes in our mission, creating an environment where everyone involved—clients, staff and partners—grows and prospers together.
